Shoulder length hair ideas "the Lob"
Tuesday, May 20, 2014
Last summer I cropped my waist length hair into an above the shoulder asymmetrical bob and the past few months I've dabbled with growing it out then cropping it back to the bob again. Now I'm leaning towards the growing it out side and these shoulder length hairstyles are so inspiring! Yay for the long bob, or as Hollywood has been saying "the lob" which is the dumbest name ever, but totally makes sense.

Vintage Miss America Photos from 1945
Thursday, October 11, 2012
I just love these photos of the Miss America Pageant from 1945 held in Atlantic City in New Jersey. The winner of the 1945 Mis America beauty pageant was Bess Myerson, the first Jewish woman to win the Miss America Pageant. She later became involved in politics (she was New York City's first Commissioner of Consumer Affairs) and public relations.
These were originally unpublished photos from the LIFE magazine archives so I'm really happy they post photos like these online.
I adore this photo of Bess Myerson getting into a cab and getting her photograph taken. She looks very elegant and beautiful even with a kerchief in her hair!

French Girl Inspired Hairstyles
Friday, April 13, 2012
Ooo la la, what is it about the French? That certain je ne sais quoi even down to the very tippy tips of their hair. I am tempted to do something with my lackluster hair. I don't hate my hair by any means, it's just...it's only justthere. Here are some vintage hairstyle inspirations from a few 1960s French babes including Chantal Goya, Francoise Hardy, and of course the bombshell Brigitte Bardot.

There's definitely a theme here...bangs! Wispy, soft, and not too blunt. Hmm...should I get bangs?

Vintage Beauty: The 1960s Cat Eye Inspiration + Tutorial
Tuesday, April 5, 2011

The 1960s winged cat eye is one of my favorite makeup looks of all time and was often sported by two of my vintage style icons, Audrey Hepburn and Anna Karina. I've tried to perfect the art of the cat eyeliner (or sometimes refered to as winged eyeliner - and makeup artists if there is a difference feel free to correct me), but sometimes I utterly fail and just end up with a thick black swoop on my eyelid. *le sigh*
But perhaps a few inspirational images and a tutorial will do the trick?

Vintage on the Streets: 1940s Hairstyles in London

You lovely lady with your vintage hair, I'll admire you from afar but would never be brave enough to let you know how greatly in awe I am of your style.

Oh, goodnes, and those collars... I really despise cold weather, but seeing photos of fabulously dressed women in vintage coats with fur collars, it makes me sort of wish I lived somewhere that warranted the wearing of a thick cozy coat.

Pre 1920s Fashion & Beauty Advertisements

I cannot imagine having to wear a maternity corset! The thought of it seems so painful! I do love that in the advertisement the mother-to-be is sewing a little bonnet for her new baby, so sweet. I love the blouses from this era (early 20th century, 1900 to 1920) They were all so delicate and feminine and featured many details I look for in modern day blouses such as eyelet, broderie anglaise, petite pleats, scalloped lace... I've recently acquired an antique blouse but unfortunately it's much too small therefore will only look lovely as a display piece. *sigh* Oh well.
