Fashion + Film: The Edge of Love 1940s Fashion

Saturday, August 13, 2011

The vintage inspired clothes from The Edge of Love I go all a flutter for. Keira Knightley looks absolutely stunning in every single frame, she is so gorgeous in this movie, even towards the end when she's less glamorous. I love that this movie really portrays everyday fashion in the 1940s (well for Welsh country/beach side that is). J'adore! (click on thumbnails for larger image)

Outfit Inspirations from "The Edge of Love"

Monday, September 28, 2009

Loosely based on real life events, The Edge of Love stars Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller in a love triangle plot set in the 1940s.

The clothes are both feminine and sporty with Lands End inspired cable knit sweaters and wellies paired with floral dresses and patterned blouses.

Look for vintage or vintage inspired floral tea dresses, blouses with feminine details such as embroidery, appliqué, and peter pan collars. Menswear inspired cardigans and sweaters in thick cable knit, stripes, or fair isle patterns.

Snip! Snip!

SNIP! SNIPPITY! SNIP! I am making a hair appointment next week so I can finally stop being a chicken and go for a short do.

My two biggest hair inspirations at the moment are Alexa Chung and Keira Knightley. Both have more square/strong jawlines (which I have) and both seem to have naturally wavy hair (which I also have) so let's hope this cut works with my hair texture *crosses fingers*

Keira Knightley is Vintage Inspired

Found this old photo of Keira Knightley in a vintage 50s inspired ensemble. Not sure how old Keira is in this photo, I'm guessing around 17-18?

Keira Knightley's trousers...

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Do you love them or hate them?

All right, first off I must be honest that I'm not a huge fan of this style of trousers... BUT I will admit I do own a pair of these style of trousers (thrifted in the kiddie section for $2.00) and have actually worn a very similar outfit (white v-neck tee, flats) with the pants. On Keira Knightley it's chic, put together, and of course she looks gorgeous. (Love the navy and white and the oversized belt, a bit Nautical, no?)

On my slight 5'1 frame...the baggy trousers... eh, it doesn't translate. (Hence why I only wore the pants once and not ever again)

Bottom line, Keira pretty much looks good in everything.

Vogue in the 1940s

I found these images from vintage 1940s Vogue to be quite inspirational. The tailoring of their clothing was simply sublime!

Here are a few images of Keira Knightley in the 2008 movie "The Edge of Love" set in the 1940s. Simply gorgeous!
