How To Wear A Vintage Circle Skirt | Style Notes

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

You know those times where you are standing in your closet, in front of dozens of options and you just simply hate everything? Well so do we and nine times out of ten we reach for a full skirt because no matter what they usually kick us out of a fashion rut. There is a reason this shape has been continually produced for decades. There is just something so feminine about a full circle skirt! We have put together some of our favorite vintage and modern looks that feature full circle skirts below to show you how easy they are to work into your everyday wardrobe. If you are as in love with them as we are, take a look at the options we have listed from our vintage shop down at the bottom.

Our take on how to wear a full vintage skirt! We paired this vintage 1950s circle skirt with our vintage inspired cropped striped Bardot Bardot top for a perfect Spring look!

Well it's finally happened, we are officially thinking of Fall! Boots. Chunky sweaters. Wool hats. I think we are in love! This explains our recent "pin-a-thon" over on our Fashion for Autumn Pinterest page.

Colors such as camel, tan, cafe au lait, mustard, and grey are what we will be filling our closets with and also thinking about what we will be stocking the Vintage Shop with for future fall shop updates. We're also way obsessed with hats! Especially the vintage Stetson looking ones. J'adore!

Are you all craving fall clothing yet? If not, take a look below at some of our favorite inspiration photos and we promise you will be!

Vintage Inspired Outfit: Wild Horses

Thursday, March 21, 2013

A week from now I'll be traversing the gorgeous Arizona desert on my way to a wedding amidst the stunning landscape of Northern Arizona. Flagstaff and Sedona are my favorite cities I've visited in Arizona and I'm ecstatic to be able to visit again (I haven't been since I was 15!) Here's a little back story on why this outfit post is inspired by horses...

When my family and I visited Flagstaff we were scheduled to do a tour through the desert on horseback, but at the last moment a thunderstorm rolled in and our horseback riding session got canceled. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do the tour this time around!

Vintage Inspired Outfits | Backyard Tea

Thursday, March 14, 2013

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with a girlfriend about hosting a party soon and it came to my mind to plan a good old fashioned tea party. Then I thought, well do women really like that sort of thing? Is it really old fashioned, do we even know how to have "proper" tea? I certainly don't, but I would love to learn!

Fast forward to the other evening I was meandering about the internet when I came across this vintage postcard of "The Old Ivy Cottage" and I wondered if it still existed in Nantucket, Massachusetts...
Vintage Inspired Outfits Backyard Tea
If I were to host a tea party I'd love to have tea in the backyard of this stunning ivy covered home amongst all those bright blossoms! Naturally my outfit would be inspired by modest styles from the 1950s and feminine details on a cardigan and sweet notes on the dress.

Would you attend a tea party?

Vintage Inspired Outfit: Farmer's Market

Thursday, January 31, 2013

I've officially been in the city of Long Beach for three weeks! Ok, ALMOST 3 weeks, so this outfit is definitely inspired by my new cirty. There are several farmer's markets here in Long Beach (there are three every week!) and happily enough Long Beach is a very bike friendly city! There are bike lanes everywhere and you often see bikers zipping around town. Which is good news for me as I dislike driving (unless it's scenic drives along the Pacific Coast Highway) and prefer to get around town on foot or via a bicycle.

The other thing I learned about Long Beach is that it has a "Bag Ban" meaning you can't get plastic bags anywhere! So I've made sure to have my trust grocery tote or basket whenever I go to the market. Loving the bag ban law by the way...way to be eco friendly LBC!

Fresh flowers, a loaf of bread (usually rosemary or olive), and various fruits and veggies are my farmer's market staples. What's in your farmer's market bag?

Vintage Inspired Outfit: Native Picnic

Sunday, January 27, 2013

A few weeks ago I purchased a vintage black wool hat with worn in leather trim and have religiously been wearing it on a daily basis. I think I'm going through a Wild West phase.

I also found out recently that my beau has never been to the Grand Canyon besides spending a few years in Arizona as a kid and visiting Arizona a few times a year. So, needless to say, a trip to the Grand Canyon is a MUST for us soon. And a picnic! Most people invision having picnics at the park, somewhere green and woodsy...but I've never really heard anyone say they want to picnic in the desert or in the canyon.

Vintage Inspired Outfit: Cabin Fever

Thursday, January 17, 2013

It has been uncharacteristically cold in California and I've just moved into my new living quarters right by the beach which means when it is cold inland in Los Angeles, it is even colder along the shore.

I have spent the past week holed up in my new apartment unpacking a seemingly endless mountain of boxes wrapping myself up in plenty of cozy layers. Knit socks, vintage wool sweaters, and a scarf around my neck.

Hardly beach lifestyle apparel! The solace has been quite nice though. A short trek to a nearby cafe in the mornings all bundled up, a little bit of reading here and there since my internet wasn't fully functional until just this morning.

But, goodness, after a week of just moving in, I'm ready to get a move on! Looking forward to the warm sunshine (in the 70s the rest of the week...yes!) and being able to traipse about town in a sundress and cardigan!

Vintage Inspired Style: Annie Hall "Tomboy" Style

Saturday, December 22, 2012

I'll admit I've never seen Woody Allen's "Annie Hall" but I am so familiar (and in love) with Diane Keaton's trouser/vest/tie combo she wears in the film. I love Menswear and since dating my fella who loves fashion in his own right, I've definitely changed up my wardrobe adding chambray shirts, trousers, grandpa cardigans...and introducing colors other than peach, pink, and cream into my closet.

Vintage Inspired Style: Annie Hall

I love how classic all of these vintage inspired outfits are. Menswear is timeless to me. Have you ever noticed that men's fashion really hasn't changed much at all in the past 100 years? Of course there are trends and fads, but for the most part, menswear is just classic and timeless. You can invest in a few quality pieces that you can wear into your olden days.
