Vintage Pop-Up Show: A Current Affair March 2013

Saturday, March 30, 2013

Last weekend we had such a blast being a part of the vintage pop-up marketplace, A Current Affair. There were quite a couple changes to this show than previous ones I have done (actually had a shop sign!). Here are some snaps from the March 2013 A Current Affair vintage show! Hope you can make it out to our next POP-UP event! Lots and lots more photos over at Adored Vintage Pop-Up Gallery.

Hey, it's our new gal, Lauren! :) See more snaps here: Adored Vintage at A Current Affair.

LA Vintage Show: A Current Affair Recap

Thursday, December 6, 2012

Last Saturday Adored Vintage was once again present at the best vintage marketplace in Los Angeles, A Current Affair! Ok, maybe I'll a little bias since it's the only vintage event I sell at, but it really is the marketplace for the best of the best in vintage (overheard it myself from a shopper!)

Here are some snaps of my booth before the shoppers came! I kept the set up really quite simple this time. Brought a couple dress forms and two racks of clothes and just hung up lace and textiles on the back wall. I always have a fairly small booth so overly decorating it can cause quite the traffic jam!

I've also discovered that with each show I participate in, my wardrobe gets more and more comfortable. Literally this time around I wore pajamas. Pretty lacey ones of course, but pajamas nonetheless. I wore a 1940s slip with a 1920s step-in chemise over it and a crochet Victorian lace jacket. Boots are from the 1970s and the star headband was made by moi. A couple people asked me what I was wearing when they noticed the buttons at the bottom. By the way, I must point out that the buttons were crochet covered buttons, ahh!

I love being at this show so much since I get to chat with guys and dolls about the things I adore the most, vintage! When I first started doing the show I would get so nervous talking to people, but once I got over that (and it took a little while) I realized people that shop at A Current Affair are just obsessed with vintage as I am and love sharing their stories and vintage adventures if you ask them.

Can't wait for the next one! Each show gets better and better!

Confessions of A Vintage Booth Vendor...

Friday, October 5, 2012

So tomorrow my lovelies is A Current Affair. And if you live in Los Angeles and you haven't heard of it, then Hear Ye, Hear Ye! I am here to tell you all about it!

A Current Affair is a one day only vintage pop-up marketplace held at the penthouse of the Cooper Design Building in the fashion district of downtown Los Angeles.

Time: 2-9 PM
Cost: $10 dollars (which includes an open bar, heeeyyy)
Payments: Cash, Credit, Paypal, Hugs + Kisses

Being a vendor at ACA is like putting one foot into brick-and-mortar world. Setting up a little 10x10 space to attract and enchant is no easy feat. The first time I was a vendor my booth was basically two racks and some clothes hung up on the wall. Then the second time around I went a bit overboard with the decorating and merchandising. Now, third time's the charm! I've been clipping little photos here and there for inspiration for my vintage booth tomorrow. And well, it's a happy medium between Version Numero Uno and Version Numero Dos.

Each time I've participated I came out with a better understanding of who my client is and who she isn't. So this time around I've decided to bring less of the things that I thought would appeal to the masses and bring more of what I love and adore because well, really I'm my own customer. And I think that's how all stores should really function. You can't try going to please everyone, but when you please THE ONE, then it's like vintage soul mate connection.

I know the main goal at these vintage shows is to sell, sell, sell. But I really look forward the most to talking with people and connecting with others. I have to clutch my heart when someone squeals with delight and notices minute details on an Edwardian dress. I think "Oh hooray, they get it, I have to talk to them!" At the last show I met this wonderful older Italian couple who invited my fella and I out to visit them in Italy. She purchased a 1930s silk peasant embroidered dress from me and she had said all my vintage just made her feel so happy and light. And I wanted to cry, really, because that is just the darnest nicest thing to say!

If you want to see more photos from past shows you can read this post and this post from the March 2012 ACA show or see the first time around in this post.

Los Angeles Vintage: Pop-Up Vintage Market Day 2 of A Current Affair

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Two weekends ago was the Spring edition of A Current Affair, the Los Angeles Vintage Pop-Up Marketplace held at the Cooper Design building in downtown Los Angeles. This was my second time participating in this wonderful 2 Day vintage event and as always I had a blast, met some really fantastic people, and was surrounded by racks and racks of beautiful vintage.

Los Angeles Vintage: Adored Vintage at A Current Affair, Day One

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Day 1 of the Vintage Pop-Up Marketplace just ended (literally like an hour ago) and I was so excited about the event that I had to post my photos immediately! Last time I participated in A Current Affair, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I brought one rack the first day, my dress form, and a rug. I think my booth has improved since then, no? ;)

It was really cool to meet girls that were already familiar with Adorevintage. A few girls even told me they've been following Adorevintage for a couple of years now (hello there if you're reading this!). I think the best part though is when I get compliments from complete strangers how much they love the vintage clothes I offer and compliment my eye for vintage.

Oh, and finally got to meet Salvage Life and Just Say Native! We didn't get a lot of time to chat since everyone was so busy setting up then people started streaming in, but hopefully we'll get to have a good old fashioned "getting to know you...getting to know all about you..." chats. I did get to chat with Salvage Life's intern, Julia, who is as sweet as sweet could be.

Ahhh...and the highlight of my evening? Meeting French actress Clemence Poesy whom I adore! She is so very sweet and even wrote me a little message in my sketch book! *happy dance* This time meeting one of my style icons was a true pleasure unlike my last experience meeting another one of my style icons, Alexa Chung at the Vintage Fashion Expo.

If you follow Adorevintage on Instagram you will see my photo with Clemence, I am geeky happy and Clemence just looks cool as always. I'll be posting Instagram photos of the event tomorrow on AV Twitter and AV Facebook as well (so yeah, got all social mediums covered).

Until tomorrow! More photos to come!

Los Angeles Vintage | A Current Affair Pop-Up Vintage Market

Monday, March 12, 2012

A Current Affair is coming up soon! (It's this weekend!) Here's my quick and dirty guide to one of my favorite vintage events in Los Angeles, A Current Affair Pop-Up Marketplace in downtown Los Angeles.

A Current Affair happens a few times a year. Spring, Fall, and Holidays. There are usually 20-30 vintage vendors who all know their stuff like for serious. This isn't your average swap meet or flea market ditty. The vendors here are not only very knowledgeable about vintage, they're also all very fashion savvy. The crowd that goes through the event is usually a good mix of wardrobe stylists, designers, costume designers for tv shows and movies, fashion bloggers, celebrities, and vintage aficionados. You'll find a plethora of vintage designer labels and rare antique and vintage finds. It's a really well curated show and a must do if you're in LA during the weekends of the events. If not to mingle with some of the fashionable peeps that come through and get your cocktail hour on...at least come to get inspired! A Current Affair is definitely the place to shop for when you're looking for that special something to add to your wardrobe.

Oh, and also all the vendors are just cool nice people. I should know, I've met them all! ^_^

Ok, let's talk prices. Since that's really what you want to know, right? A Current Affair isn't a flea market. Can you haggle for prices? Sure, as a vendor I'm not going to get offended, just don't ask for a $400 dress to be $60... I'm not sure how other vendors feel about price haggling, but I know when I go to a vintage show I always ask for a lower price if I feel like what the seller is asking is a bit higher. If they say no, I was probably going to pay the asking price anyway. Long story short, it doesn't hurt to ask, just don't be insulting.

SEE YA THERE!

Adorevintage at A Current Affair Vintage Marketplace Pop-Up Event Los Angeles

Monday, September 26, 2011

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be one of the vendors at A Current Affair, a vintage pop-up marketplace held at the penthouse of the Cooper Building. The two day event started on Saturday afternoon and stylish guys and gals shopped, gabbed, and drank into the evening. I had SUCH A BLAST! Even a few celebrities passed on through and I was able to brush shoulders (and have short conversations) with the likes of Marisa Tomei and Nora Zehetner (from Grey's Anatomy and Mad Men). I was cool as a cucumber on the outside, but inside I was as giddy as a little girl in a Unicorn shop!

Here are some instagram pics I snapped during the event. The next one is December 3rd and 4th, so if you're in LA or nearby, mark your calendars and be sure to check out A Current Affair!

I made friends with the other vendors by me since we took turns watching each other's booths when we needed bathroom breaks. Check out LUX Revival and Vutique, the shop owners are pretty kick ass people! The event was such a great place to meet new people, hear stories, and witness some really fabulous fashion! I had a 15 minute conversation with a gentleman who curates the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Museum about Kathryn Grayso n and he seemed genuinely excited that I own two of her vintage dresses from her estate because he had a couple as well. Met the stylish gals from Fabulous on a Budget, the super sweet Heather from La Fashion Snob, the lady behind the camera and style inspiration blog HiStyley, and the ever sweet Kat of La Femme Vintage. It was just so nice to be around people that really appreciate, love, and kind of obsess over vintage like I do!

Adorevintage Pop-Up Shop at Space1520 in Hollywood, CA

adorevintage_space1520_1

Last Thursday I decided to pack up some of my vintage wares and sell them to the public at a little place in Hollywood called Space 15 Twenty for a pop-up shopping event called "Midsummer Night Sample Sale" hosted by Racked L.A. and DNA Designers & Artists.

This was the first time I've ever done anything like this, so I was a little nervous about making sure it looked great and people would get the Adorevintage brand. I forgot about signage until a couple hours before the event so I quickly crafted the chalkboard sign with a blank canvas, chalkboard paint, and some dried flowers from last week's visit to the farmer's market on Larchmont. Not too shabby...or actually it IS shabby but it's suppose to be! ^_^

I have to admit, I think the crowd at this venue probably prefers more "urban vintage" (as in 80s & 90s) while I tend to favor all things lacey, polka-dotty, and in general older. I still had so much fun chatting with everyone though and meeting a few fellow vintage sellers and fashion bloggers.
