25,000 Instagram Fans! Thank you! Merci! Salamat!

Sunday, April 27, 2014

Almost 3 years ago I signed up for this cool little app called Instagram posting pictures of my life's little happenings (cheese and wine afternoons with friends, farmers' market on Sundays...) and then it lead into little behind the scene peeks of what it was and is like to be a online vintage shopkeeper.

Throughout these few years it has been a wonderful joy (and sometimes bittersweet) to look back at these old photos and see where Adored Vintage and myself have come. While Instagram is the place where I share beauty and loveliness to inspire those that follow Adored Vintage on Instagram, it isn't lost to me all the not so lovely real life moments not shared and captured.

These photos from our Instagram are amongst our top liked photos ever. In a couple years time AV went from a few hundred followers to over 25,000 and I am humbled, overjoyed, and to be quite honest a little shock. Thank you for being inspiring and hopefully inspired!

As a thank you for your support, your love, and well, liking what we like (lovely and pretty moments), we are offering all of our social media fans 25% OFF their purchases in May with the code MUCHADORED. Simply enter it at checkout to save 25% OFF your vintage shop purchase.

Vintage Disneyland Photos & Dapper Days 2014

Thursday, February 6, 2014

We are so pleased to announce that on the weekend of Feb22nd-23rd Adored Vintage will be selling alongside A Current Affair at Disneyland Dapper Days! So to celebrate, we found these amazing photos from a vintage editorial from the 1960s shot in Disneyland!

What is Dapper Days you ask? It is a weekend where you, your friends, and family can attend Disneyland dressed to the nines! A lot of guests wear vintage clothing which of course we absolutely ADORE!

We'll be bringing lots and lots of vintage 1940s-1960s easy to wear around the theme park dresses. The vintage marketplace will be held at the Grand California Hotel in one of the ball rooms and there will be make-up and hairstylists on hand to really get you into the right vintage look!

Stay tuned for more information of the vintage marketplace that will be taking place in Disneyland!

Vintage Atelier 2013 | A Year in Review

Sunday, December 29, 2013

In the month of May of this year I made a big move for Adored Vintage and that was to get myself a little vintage atelier! A vintage work studio all of my own with lots of natural light! You know, that was my FIRST and most IMPORTANT prerequisite for a work space? Lots and lots of natural light! I am crazy for spaces that are white, bright, and clean. And all the light is also most needed for all the vintage clothing I photograph for the online vintage shop!

I've moved around the studio, not even joking, a dozen times. I'm never fully satisfied with the layout and feel I must constantly change it. Shift it. Move it around. I can't stand when spaces becomes stale and stagnant. I'm never inspired in spaces that just don't evolve and change.

Although I've only been in this space for 8 months I am already outgrowing it. So who knows what 2014 will bring!

So some common questions I get asked about my work studio are the following...

1.] Where did you get your vintage dress forms?
2.] How many clothing racks do you have?
3.] How do you shoot your pictures for your online store?
4.] Where did you get your racks?
5.] Where did you buy your wooden hangers?

So answer those...

1.] My collection of vintage dress forms have been sourced from antique shops, flea markets, and a sewing supply company in downtown Los Angeles. Yes, they are expensive! I'm still on the hunt for a size 0 vintage dress form and 0/2 lingerie form. So if you know of any...let me know! Expect to pay $200-$800 for a vintage dress form.

2.] Last I counted I had 20. I constantly feel like I need more, but there's no room to put them!

3.] I shoot all my vintage clothes against an off white wall near the large windows in the studio and use only the sun as my light source. Check my blog post about How to Photograph Vintage Clothing.

4.] I got the rolling collapsible racks at store supply stores in Los Angeles called ACME Display. The white racks are from IKEA (and only $10!) While they're not racks I'd permanently have, they work well and I like how minimal they look. The industrial pipe racks my fella built for me using pipes and wood from Home Depot.

5.] I bought some of the wooden hangers from Store Supply Warehouse. Most of them I got from IKEA. I did the math on the amount I needed and IKEA hangers were a bit cheaper (I think by like 6 cents hanger) If you want hangers with notches for lingerie or pants hangers, then definitely Store Supply Warehouse!

For more photos (and a list of where I got a lot of my furniture in the studio), Apartment Therapy did a Vintage Workspace Tour of Adored Vintage this past summer!

Vintage Shop Sale | Black Friday

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

I've only ever experienced BLACK FRIDAY once and I have to be honest, it was totally horrific, and amazing. I didn't even sleep a wink and you know how difficult that is after you've eaten your weight in turkey, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes? I just wanted to KNOCK OUT in bed, but instead, I stayed up and went to several shops for the the DOOR BUSTER savings! But my God, it was awful! And completely fascinating! I had never seen so many people be so unpolite and so manic over STUFF. People were getting vicious! It was like that scene in Mean Girls when everyone turns into wild animals at the school.

LUCKILY, you won't have to go push madly through the crowds to save at Adored Vintage for the Black Friday sale! The sale starts on NOV 29th (Black Friday!) but probably will start a little earlier, perhaps right after Thanksgiving dinner! All little black vintage dresses, black hats, black purses, everything dark, moody, and black will be 40% OFF for 24 hours! Although, I'm considering extending it to the weekend. What do you think loves?

Vintage Dresses Preview: So Many Frocks!

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Last week was spent mostly catching up for AV and my other shop, Orn Hansen. This week was a little more catching up and finally some time to photograph many many vintage dresses for the upcoming weeks! Here is a preview of some of the dresses making their way into the vintage shop soon!

Vintage Jewelry Preview | Pretty Baubles

Friday, October 11, 2013

I don't carry too much vintage jewelry in the shop, but lately I've been spotting a lot of pretty little things during my vintage hunting trips. I have such a soft spot for art deco jewelry, especially the thin delicate sort such as the delicate silver and pink art deco necklace previewed below.

And isn't the bakelite cherry brooch the most darling thing you've ever seen?! It would be so cute pinned on to a peter pan collar blouse or dress!

Look for these soon in the vintage shop!

Vintage Picks: Dot + Stripes

Saturday, September 14, 2013

Although our first love is floral print, stripes and polka dots come up a close second. And when you mix the two, its pure gold! When mixing prints like these we recommend sticking with a similar color pattern which makes contrasting prints look like they were made for each other. Take a look below at some of our favorite polka dot/ striped pieces from the store below and shop your favorites here. Do you dare to mix prints? Tell us your favorite ways down below in the comments!
