Native West + 1970s Cher

Friday, May 30, 2014

Long before there was disco Cher (who is awesome) there was Native American/Southwest inspired Cher (equally as awesome). Ok, so maybe it's not too long before, only a few years. In the early 1970s Cher often modeled in Vogue magazine (probably a lot of that has to do with the then Vogue editor in chief, Diana Vreeland, who loved how Cher looked) and in most of these editorial stories Cher wore a lot of incredible Native American jewelry, colors, and textures. Also, can I just say how much I love her pin straight black mane? Makes me want to grow mine out then get a Brazilian blow out so I can channel my "take me back to 1973" native spirit.

All right, I know that last photo (in the bottom right corner) isn't of Cher, but you get the vibe. Here are some more Southwest/Native American fashion + lifestyle inspirations. And if you get a quick minute, check out all the native and bohemian inspired vintage jewelry that just arrived in the shop!

Isn't the vintage Ralph Lauren advertisement just amazing? Although I could do without the bandana around the head like that, too Rambo for me. And this last photo of country darling Emmylou Harris photographed at magic hour with the sun through her bohemian floral dress and her simple silver jewelry. I adore this so much.

Vintage Jewelry Preview | Pretty Baubles

Friday, October 11, 2013

I don't carry too much vintage jewelry in the shop, but lately I've been spotting a lot of pretty little things during my vintage hunting trips. I have such a soft spot for art deco jewelry, especially the thin delicate sort such as the delicate silver and pink art deco necklace previewed below.

And isn't the bakelite cherry brooch the most darling thing you've ever seen?! It would be so cute pinned on to a peter pan collar blouse or dress!

Look for these soon in the vintage shop!

Darling Jewels | Vintage + Antique Jewelry for the Shop

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

This afternoon we spent photographing several antique and vintage jewelry pieces for the shop! My favorites are the art deco necklaces and I am most tempted to keep them all for myself! The floral enamel brooches and earrings were all purchased from the same estate and I have to wonder what lovely lady had such a dainty and pretty collection. Browse & shop our vintage & antique jewelry here.

Vintage Jewelry: Just A Little Bit of Sparkle

Saturday, February 12, 2011

I love that these vintage choker necklaces from the 1950s have just a hint of sparkle with tiny rhinestones or painted enamel. They're the perfect accompaniment to a cute vintage day dress or even to dress up a plain white tee and jeans.

Person to Know: Miriam Haskell

Sunday, December 19, 2010

American jewelry designer who created beautiful costume jewelry pieces from the 1920s through the 1950s. Miriam Haskell jewelry is highly sought after by collectors and vintage aficionados alike.

Celebrities such as Lucille Ball, Joan Crawford, and the Duchess of Windsor have all worn her jewelry. In the 1950s, her brother suggested she start regularly signing her jewelry pieces. Prior to that, most of Miriam Haskell's designs are unsigned, therefore even harder to identify!

During the second world war, she had her designs crafted from natural materials and plastics and designed patriotic jewelry pieces. However, after World War II, Miriam's health took a toll leading to the loss of her company to her brothers in the 1950s.

I have to note that Miriam wasn't the actual designer for her jewelry designs, maybe in the beginning, but that credit should really belong to the jewelry designer she hired named Frank Hess (who designed pieces up until the 1960s).

BTW, have you noticed my newest doll? (And by doll, I mean dress form) She is a Vintage Wolf Dress Form, a vintage size 10 but has the measurements of a modern day size 2/4. An early birthday gift to yours truly from my honey bunches of oats. I spent nearly 3 months hunting for just the right one and we finally found her waiting patiently in an antique shop (next to a Victorian dress form!) I named her Beatrice. My other dress form, a modern day size 0/00, is named Eloise. Just some Adore Vintage FYI. *hehe*
