A Vintage Outfit Post: Go-to Uniform

Sunday, June 16, 2013

There was no particular reason why I wanted to do an outfit post today other than I really liked what I wore. It's simple, nothing fancy. It's pretty much my go-to uniform when I can't be bothered to put together outfits. Simple blouse, a vintage skirt, and sandals. And this hairstyle is my go-to hairstyle when I can't sort the mess that is my hair.

I'm quite curious as to why women simply do not wear skirts more often, especially vintage ones. I find them to be so flattering on a number of shapes and forms. And they're so damn comfortable! Go forth women and wear more skirts!

HAIRSTYLE DIY:
Make four sections in your hair and braid each section.
Wrap two front braids under head and pin on opposite side.
Wrap two back braids over the front of head overlapping.
Use lots of bobby pins.

Blouse: Levis
Skirt: Vintage from Shop Lawrence
Bag: Shop Lawrence
Sandals: Madewell
Jewelry: Vintage + New

And if you're wondering, photos edited using VSCO. ^_^

What I Wore: Chloe Meets Vintage on St. Patrick's

Sunday, March 17, 2013

I honestly thought yesterday was St. Patrick's Day (posted St. Patrick's posts on facebook...whoops!), so this outfit was not chosen because today is St. Patrick's Day, but coincidentally, I was the greenest amongst friends today! I was at a worship/prayer workshop last night and was chatting with a friend and exclaimed "HA! you're not wearing green and it's St. Patrick's!" meaning to pinch him and he responded with "It's not until tomorrow!" So, joke was on me as I wore green yesterday as well!

I had planned to wear this outfit to a picnic party at the park, which got canceled at the last minute, oh well, I just looked quite festive! This vintage 1940s skirt is one of my favorites in my personal collection because it easily can be a modern day skirt. The giraffe print is amazing as is the small "bustle" detail in the back.

When I first noticed this CHLOE blouse I almost passed it up. I'm not really one to purchase expensive items for myself (let alone chartreuse!), but upon trying on the blouse, I immediately fell in love. I just LOVE the color, but have never ever worn it. This is the only yellow/green garment in my creams-peach-pink filled closet!

My favorite element of this blouse is guess... if you said the sleeves, by golly you've got it! I feel as if I should be writing poetry with a quill pen while wearing this blouse and I have to be honest that at one point today I was quite tempted to walk around with my hands on my waist as to show off my billowy sleeves. Haha!

So, there we have it...what I wore on St. Patrick's Day...an all green outfit without meaning to wear all green, but well, I just went with it.

What I Wore: Modern Day 1940s Inspired

Thursday, November 15, 2012

I've been working on a few little side projects on Adored Vintage such as the vintage clothing sewing terminology guide and the vintage bulletin, along with the daily ins and outs of running an online vintage store that my daily outfits have been to say the least, a bit lazy. If you follow adoredvintage on instagram then you would have seen one of these lazy outfits, also known as my "boyfriend uniform".

Vintage Inspired Outfit, Modern Day 1940s

And of course when one dresses in a lazy manner and wears their hair in a messy bun for the 5th day in a row, then one starts to feel fuddy duddy and last night I was feeling this very much. So my antidote for this fuddy duddiness is to dress up in something pretty, yet simple, and put on red lipstick. Of course by the time I got to taking these photos the red lipstick was long gone, but for 9 AM this morning, it did the trick.

Vintage Inspired Outfit, Modern Day 1940s

I was going to do my hair up in a 1940s hairstyle this morning, but seeing as I had to go into work today, I knew I'd ruin it and just put it into a bun, so I straightened out my curls instead. I very rarely wear head to toe vintage (and my head to toe I mean hair, makeup, and clothing) mostly because I can't quite carry the whole vintage look like some vintage fashion bloggers can. I do very much admire girls that wear their hair in 40s hairstyles and have perfectly done makeup. But sadly I will not achieve that polished vintage look and I know it's not really me either.

My definition for vintage for my own self (and obviously this doesn't apply to everyone who wears vintage, just me personally, if you ever cared to wonder) is vintage that looks modern. I love mixing vintage clothing with modern day clothing in a way that makes it difficult for someone to figure out WHICH is vintage and which isn't.

What is your definition of vintage fashion for your own personal style? What's your antidote for the fuddy duddies?

Vintage Inspired Outfit Post: Navy Au Lait

Sunday, November 11, 2012

There must be a blue moon out because I'm doing an outfit post! Haha! Okay, cheesey jokes aside, I was really quite excited to finally find something in my closet to wear with this pleated skirt from Sugarlips. Of course when I looked back on my outfit photos I realized I wore the skirt sideways the entire day, but I still like how it looked, so it's kind of cool that you can wear this vintage inspired skirt two different ways!

{ Check out how it SHOULD have been worn here }
Did I do all right? LOL.

One of the biggest complaints I have about modern day skirts is that they very rarely fit me at the actual waist and I am quite happy to say that this skirt from Sugarlips fits so well! I really hate when skirts hit low on the waist, I like my waist bands to fit me right AT the waist (I have this theory that women that wear clothes at their actual waist bands have slimmer waists) so it was a nice surprise that this fit so well as most contemporary sized clothing when marked as an XS or a size 0 never actually are (I'm talking to you Anthropologie!!!)

And on the topic of skirts, I bought a skirt yesterday at a consignment shop in downtown LA by a French brand and it's marked a size 6 with a 24" waist. Augh, modern day sizing is so baffling to me. I do wish that clothes for women were sized like men's clothes. 30", 32", 34". It would make dressing so much easier!

Skirt from Sugarlips, check out more trendy skirts from this Los Angeles based fashion brand.

Vintage Outfit Post: Is it Autumn Yet?

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

The weather has recently been taking a dip into the 60s in the mornings and I got a bit overexcited for Autumn in choosing today's outfit for work that by midday I was just down to the dress and the temperature had risen to the 80s.

Ahh well... at least for a little while I got to look like it was Autumn. This vintage polka dot dress is borrowed from my vintage shop and because it's a few sizes too big, I wore my trusty lightweight trench coat with it. I do that a lot with clothes that are too big for me...just throw on a small jacket over it.

I cannot believe tomorrow is already Thursday! Isn't that crazy, I feel like the week JUST started. Time is just flying by!

Vintage Outfit Post | Take A Moment...

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Just relax. Take it easy. Those kinds of words are always a bit hard for me to swallow. I am very much the kind of gal that's go-go-go so telling me to "take it easy, slow down" is much easier said than done.

I had set certain goals for myself and I completed them, but I somehow think as soon as I cross that finish line...I might as well keep going, I mean I finished so early!

It was nice to take a little detour through the hills and feel the wind in my hair. This was a little stopover on the way to Disneyland and while it was scorching hot (yet again) I did welcome the 15 minutes of simply not doing much but walking, chatting, and snapping photos with my beau.

And now for some pictures from Disneyland!

Vintage Outfit Post Vintage Outfit Post
We had a fantastic time being goofballs at Disney (I LOVE Disney! I am such a happy go lucky kid there!) and I was super excited to try out the new Cars ride. I hate those photos they snap at you because I am always making the most atrocious faces like I am being dropped into the mouth of doom or something.

And little side note...dannng my man looks good!

So yay for taking a semi day off from work and taking a moment to enjoy life, laugh, and live a little.

What We Wore | Pomona Antique Street Faire

Saturday, September 29, 2012

We heard about the Pomona Antique Fair a couple of weeks ago while my fella was out and about doing his craft beer brew thing at the LA County Fair. We are both huge flea market dweebs, so we were only happy to check out this little street fair and see what treasures we could hunt down. (I'll be posting some of the goodies we got later on this week, lots of rad stuff!)
We actually weren't planning on doing an outfit post, but I figured, why the heck not, we had pictures of what we were wearing and maybe you're curious? (And if not, that's cool too, this is my blog after all *wink*) So, here is what we wore to the Pomona Antique Faire...

Vintage Outfit Post: Bohemian Feathers

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Oh my goodness... I adore this vintage inspired dress so very, very much! It's a pale nude cream color with black and grey feathers cascading all around. I just adore the late 1930s turned 1970s silhouette with the blouson style top, floaty open sleeves, and the keyhole back. Oh, and little fun fact...this dress is from the company I work (aka my day job!), S U G A R L I P S.

Kind of a silly name, but I love the clothes we carry, well most of it anyway. It's actually really exciting as I get to work with the designers sometimes and give them design inspirations. This dress for instance was a bit inspired by this gorgeous photo I saw of a girl wearing a bohemian chiffon dress by Chloe. Tres Jolie!

Currently Loving: Curious Creatures Shop + A Vintage Outfit Post

Sunday, July 15, 2012

My taste in jewelry usually leans on the simple and delicate side which is why I was completely ecstatic to have discovered Curious Creatures on Etsy! All the pieces are right up my alley. Simple, chic, a bit of color, and lots of geometric shapes.

I've been coveting the Everyday Necklace which the shop was kind enough to send to me as a gift (thank you! thank you!) If you follow me on Instagram you'll see that I wear it quite often...

Over the weekend I wore it while doing some work in my vintage atelier. Usually when I'm working I wear very simple clothes. But you know, still a good mix of vintage thrown in there.

Vintage Outfit Post: My Vintage Blue Jeans

Friday, June 1, 2012

I've been wanting to stop by the Levi's Malibu store for awhile and this past Memorial weekend I finally was able to stop by! It's a really fantastic shop and the decor and merchandising is very Americana and pretty much everything you think Levi's should be...lots of vintage flair to boot which you know I dig!

So...the outcome of my little trip to Levi's Malibu was a new pair of vintage cut 1966 606 jeans. Can I just gush for a minute about how AMAZING I think these jeans are? I mean they make me look bombshell booty good! I actually tried on a couple pairs of Levi's and as it turns out, my figure isn't made for modern day cut jeans. Which probably explains my serious lack of denim in my wardrobe. These particular pair are officially my THIRD pair of jeans. I'm not much of a denim wearer, so these are probably will be my last pair for a very long time. They were definitely a small investment (I've always scoffed at gals who spent over $200 on a pair of jeans... *ahem*)

So because I felt like a bit of a bombshell in these jeans, I had to style it up a bit. Are you giggling at my "come hither" look? *blushing* I do feel so womanly and fabulous in these jeans though. Like I never understood how a woman can feel sexy in jeans... turns out I just never found the right pair!

A Vintage Outfit Post | A Little Western + A Little Prep

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

It's been quite a week so far and it's only Wednesday. I'm also mildy surprised at myself for taking this many outfit photos (that's 3-4 now for May?), but if I am honest, it's really more of a "proof is in the pudding" thing for me that I wear the same shit all the time. An entire trash bag of clothes were just recently donated to a friend's closet. Happy dressing, my friend!

Also, I really quite liked this outfit. This white cotton blouse I ordered from the Levi's store just arrived on Monday and I couldn't wait to wear it. I have a feeling it is going to be one of new favorites I wear over and over again. This skirt I've had for awhile now and I've torn the hem in two places because it's a bit too long and I'm a bit of a klutz in heels.

I think my favorite part about the outfit are the berries on my hat. I pinned it on last minute before heading over to the MYRTLE + Gretchen Jones trunk show. (A post on that later!) Yay, it's Wednesday!
